Prego is the kind of restaurant where waiters will hold the door and pull out your chair so it's one to keep in mind when you're looking to book a meal that will impress. Just because it's fancy, doesn't mean it's the kind of "fine dining" where you leave hungry. The Italian dishes served here are generous and exquisitely plated and there is a matching wine list of Australian and quality European drops.

If it weren't a forty five minute drive from where we live I think Prego would be our new favourite restaurant. The food is superb. Every morsel is well thought out with the textures and flavours beautifully balanced. My partner had the chilli garlic prawns for entree. Instead of the usual mass of small prawns dripping in garlic butter this dish was made up of beautiful, large prawns with a well balanced sauce of chilli and garlic which enhanced rather than dominated the prawn. I opted for the wood fired morton bay bugs (on the special menu) and received five generous bugs served with haloumi and a beautiful spinach salad replete with crispy (yes crispy) shavings of egg plant. We were already truly impressed before we embarked on our mains, traditional Saltimboca for my partner and wood fired spatchcock for me. We shared a green salad which lightened the whole meal. The serves were generous and both the veal and the spatchcock were beautifully tender. The veal came with artichoke gratin (divine my partner said) and the spatchcock came with tiger prawns (seafood bonus for me), roast potatoes and caramelised onions. We were so impressed with the entrees and mains that we couldn't leave without dessert (which we often do) and we both opted for the chocolate fondant scented with orange and cardamon. This was deliciously light (almost like a souffle) with the lovely molten chocolate centre. Served with a good quality vanilla ice-cream and some fresh fruit it rounded off one of the best meals we've had out for a long time. We're not wine buffs so we did fine the wine list a little challenging. Make sure you wear your glasses so you don't mistakenly choose a more expensive bottle of wine than you want (like I did, oops). The wine was beautiful and I'm sure true wine buffs will appreciate the menu much more than we did. The service was very professional (doors opened for you, chairs pulled back, coats taken on and off....that kind of thing) but friendly enough not to make us feel uncomfortable. Overall I give this restaurant a ten out of ten. We'll definitely be back.
