FONDA MEXICAN - RICHMOND
Melbourne, VIC

Richmond's Fonda Mexican is riding the taco revolution in Melbourne, which shows no signs of slowing. Serving a great mix of authentic Mexican fare, Fonda's fish tacos are a must, as are the larger burritos packed with healthy fillings. The outdoor courtyard is made for soaking up the afternoon sun, perfect with a lychee and passionfruit frozen margarita. When Mexican gets as good as this, just be prepared for the little street party that will ensue with fellow diners waiting for a table.

While there are some very fresh ingredients put into their dishes, the authentic flavours you find at such Melbourne icons as Mamasitas ate not there, the chicken burrito tastes overwhelmingly of charcoal, while you lose the beautiful fresh corn and salad. The pulled pork taco sounds delightful but has no balance of flavor, it either burns your mouth or you get a whack of sweetness from the pineapple! The fish taco was much better but still doesn't rate next to Manasita's and the vegetarian taco, while the sauce was nice the crunchy corn was just wrong, the corn on the cob was the saving grace, sweet and fresh, but its pretty hard to mess up grilled corn. Overall disappointing
