The charming humbleness of head chef Sanom Ngamlamai fronts thoughts of Regent Thai. She produces good food and just smiles quietly when you hit her with compliments. Unlike others of her trade, who endlessly baste themselves in praise, and present with "fig jam" - although you will never have to ask them. Sanom with husband Te - he of restaurant family tree Phuket, Bangkok and Suree's, have a loyal following.
Dishes are well-priced and crafted with fresh harvest, seafood especially. Steamed salmon fillet and deep-fried whole barra lead the fish pack. The specials board is re-chalked often. All good things come together in the peppercorn seafood. Fat prawns, supple squid, mussels and satisfying scallops are worked with chilli and garlic, the warmth of the peppercorns extended with basil. Red curry dishes also get multiple thumbs up.
