In case you miss it, a 38 metre, 150,000-red-brick chimney heralds The Greek on Halifax Street. Until the 1950's this site was Adelaide's "City Destructor Complex", the place for riddance of rubbish. Since 2002 it has held the far more tasteful function of being one of our country's favourite Greek eateries. With a slightly industrial-esque façade and inner style, the dining layout of several small rooms works a cosier feel.
Those who seek the Greeks for their way with seafood and char grill should head straight for the octapothi souvlaki. Served with a simple rocket ensemble, if it does not come butter-soft for the price, you have reason to wave your tentacles in the air. Moreton Bay bugs are a coveted sight on the menu. These quiet achiever crustaceans are respectably treated with a drizzle of olive oil and lemon dressing after their spell on the grill. Should you be dining with a seafood lover, consider popping some Moet and Chandon over the thalassina platter. On it the bugs and octopus tangle with prawns, and rings of lightly fried squid. You however will not come out of it lightly, but someone has to pay the cleaner of those 150,000 red bricks.
