PROFILE BY BEST RESTAURANTS
One of those amazing local venues that you just know will soon become a national sensation, Harajuku Gyoza has taken Brisbane by storm – next stop, the world. And when the inevitable global domination happens, you can be in the enviable position of being able to say ‘Oh yeah, that’s been my favourite local dining spot at Indooroopilly for ages.’ Then list all your must-eats from the menu – because you’re just a helpful kind of person like that.
Renowned for their kitschy, kooky and plain adorable set up, Harajuku Gyoza has made a name for itself with its downright delicious Japanese izakaya eats and quirky personality, and their venue at Indooroopilly Shopping Centre’s Station Road Dining precinct is one of the originals, and the best (and not just because you can go shopping beforehand).
Specialising in gyoza, as their name suggests, Harajuku serves up what they like to call Japanese dumplings of fun, crispy on the bottom and juicy on the top. Bringing the tradition of izakaya from Tokyo, there’ll be no judgement for ordering seconds here, in fact, it’s encouraged! Order plate after plate of pork, chicken, duck, prawn or mixed vegetable dumplings, and then add any of the many, mouth-watering sides to your order, and make the whole thing a Mount Fuji sized meal! Tender pork belly kakuni is a must, as is the tempura eggplant and the edamame, plus a serving of spicy ramen, oh and the chicken karaage – did we mention you might want to bring some friends?
If you just can’t get enough of those dumplings, there’s always dessert. That’s right, dessert dumplings. With salted caramel or peanut butter and white chocolate deep-fried gyozas with ice cream on the menu, you might just give up on food that’s not in dumpling form!
The perfect location for a fun (and possibly never-ending) lunch with your pals, for that first date with a cutie who might need convincing that you’re cool, or when nothing else can satisfy your Godzilla-sized hunger, Harajuku Gyoza is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner.
