MADAME WU BRISBANE
Brisbane, Queensland

Top10 Image
There's plenty to like about Madame Wu's take on Euro-Asian dining. The lavish venue has a number of seating areas; private dining rooms hung with paper lanterns, a bar area decked out with Scandinavian blonde wood chairs and a cavernous al fresco space with stunning views of the Story Bridge. Whatever the setting, the contemporary fusion food on offer is impeccable, inspired by Queensland produce and offered up with Asian panache.

PROFILE BY BEST RESTAURANTS

Making our way through the magnificent bamboo entrance, realisation is immediate. Madame Wu is a venue we will be returning to.

We spend some minutes taking in the contemporary and glamorous interior. A stunning gramophone sits atop the long bar, which draws our gaze to the equally amazing, glass wall, wine cellar. The dark wood tables are immaculately set with gorgeous stone, plate ware.

We do a full circle, around the room’s magnificent, concrete, tree feature, and come to a full stop outside the kitchen.

An open archway over the food pass allows us a front row seat to the action. Chefs mere feet away, are working seamlessly to dish up canapés to the some hundred guests, eagerly awaiting the no doubt, delicious, Asian fare that is about to be served.

After tasting the rock sugar, soy, and black bean braised beef cheeks, our initial realisation is cemented. We will definitely be returning.

We opt for seconds (thirds) of Wu’s fried rice, and move out to the open balcony. Here we take in the view from Kangaroo Point to the Story Bridge, load our beautiful stone bowls with five-spice Mooloolaba prawns, and really appreciate what makes this Eagle Street location so covetable.

For a casual lunch, or special occasion dinner, this is Asian fusion at its absolute best. We’d go back for the dumplings alone.
