PROFILE BY BEST RESTAURANTS

Authentic Thai in tasteful settings that display a touch of class and character is a rare find in the world of plastic chairs and cutlery. That Thai, which has taken up shop in an old cottage, wonderfully executes all of the more desired characteristics while still delivering spectacular, authentic cuisine. So sit indoors or on the generous balcony that offers picturesque alfresco dining and a gentle breeze to match and dig into appetisers like scrumptious steamed dumplings filled with crab meat and pork and served with pineapple pieces, coriander and a spicy chilli sauce or "golden cups" – delicately light pastry shells that parcel a combination of sweet corn, prawn, chicken, onion and traditional Thai spices.

This charming Racecourse Road resident creates a unique atmosphere; a calm, tranquil ambience that makes dining just a little more of a pleasure. So it is easy to sail from entrees and into main selections like tamarind-grilled duck breast smothered in a zesty tamarind sauce and sprinkled with crispy fried shallots. That Thai also artlessly masters authentic Thai curries. All of the standards all there in addition to a few fresh dishes. For something special choose the lamb curry which materialises as tender lamb fillets basted in a spicy sweet curry, cooked with bamboo shoots and coconut milk. A lab gai dishes up a reviving combination of tender minced chicken, freshly-squeezed lemon, chilli, coriander, spring onions and is served with roasted ground rice. For memorable Thai dishes in a beautifully spot, this is perfect.
