CHAR RESTAURANT
Darwin and the North, Northern Territory

Top10 Image
Not just your average steakhouse, Char Restaurant at Admiralty occupies a prime location overlooking Darwin's green-lawned esplanade and the sea. The restaurant is housed in the charming, heritage-listed Admiralty House, which is spacious and offers both indoor and al fresco seating. As its name suggests, Char's specialty is red meat cooked to perfection on the grill. Beef is sourced direct from producers and aged for five weeks before it hits your plate.

My 300gm Waghu Rump ($46) was racked with sinue. After trying to get the best from it, I asked to see the chef. The Manager came, said the chef was busy, then agreed with my summation and asked if I had drawn it to the waiter's attention. She said they would have replaced it. Clearly in a specialist steak restaurant it was my fault I decided to press on eating it! I declined her offer of something else. Then when the bill came, despite her agreement as to its quality, no reduction!! I asked and got 50% off the steak price!!! For a restaurant that advertises itself as the best in Darwin for steak, I recommend diners look elsewhere for quality.

Disappopinted I got a margarita with sugar around the rim instead of salt, everyone knows you use salt! Sitting outside, service not good, had to leave my table to get service for more sauce, served again in a little plastic take away container. Overpriced for what I got.
