The early 20th century heritage façade of the Hotel contains the unexpectedly suave ambience of business-friendly Linq Restaurant & Bar, which features slick chrome tables, elegant black dining chairs and textural stonework interiors. Power lunches and working day breaks alike ease straight into the modern space, where flavoursome, simple meals and efficient service are the focus. Linger at the eye-catching white tiled bar inside, or position yourself at window seats for a stunning vista out onto Darling Harbour.
FOOD & BEVERAGE
Fresh, modern Mediterranean meals whet the appetite for those after a quickie lunch or laid back mess. Choose from lighter meals like salt and pepper squid salad with tomato salsa and lime aioli, through to a heartier truffle-scented mushroom risotto with spinach and parmesan, or seafood linguine with prawns, calamari, dory, asparagus and chilli. Delicious pizzas are ideal for relaxed group affairs – choose from a classic Margarita with roasted roma tomato, buffalo mozzarella and fresh basil, or opt for the mod oz Peking Duck with hoi sin sauce, shallot and cucumber. Can't bear to return to the office? Linger a little longer over Linq's cognac and white chocolate fruit log. The beverage selection is equally tempting, including a solid selection of regional and foreign wines, including oft overlooked rosé and moscato varietals, plus tap and bottled beers.
The space can seat 120 for a formal dinner or 200 guests for a standing cocktail reception. Plush sofas and low candlelit tables let guests settle into the warm, intimate function space, while the expert sound system invites party-goers to the dancefloor. Cocktail menus are available starting from $15.50 per person for a selection of canapés, which carry through the restaurant's Mediterranean vibe – choose from the likes of crumbed prawn cutlets with semi dried tomato aioli, or Italian meat balls in a tangy barbecue sauce. Should guests require a more substantial offering, boxed meals are available, such as Moroccan lamb with herb couscous and organic yoghurt, as well as gourmet pizza platters.
The restaurant is open Monday to Friday for lunch from 12pm to 3pm, and dinner served until late in the Main Bar area.
PROFILE BY BEST RESTAURANTS
Looking at the neat black tables, white lounges, carpeted floors, textured tile feature-walls and stylish pot plants of Linq Bar and Restaurant, it is hard to believe that the area used to be (dare I say it) a seedy late-night dance floor. Breathing new life into what has turned out to be a charming third floor of the heritage-listed Shelbourne Hotel, this smart-casual eatery has replaced swaying life forms with smart leather lounges, retro music with cooler, more urban, beats and slurring bogans with a stellar menu of real value-for-money food. Suited to the lunchtime restrictions and fastidious palates of the Sydney corporate crowd, Linq offers a menu of modern Australian and international fare that slides somewhere between high-quality pub-grub and restaurant cuisine.
The menu options vary from a selection of innovative and classic pizzas, such as the chorizo (with chorizo sausage, salami, Parma ham, semi-dried tomato, basil and buffalo mozzarella), the duck (with Peking duck, hoi sin sauce, shallots and cucumber) and the Margarita (roast Roma tomato, buffalo mozzarella and fresh basil). Lunchers can also select from an a la carte menu that includes everything from more typical pub food like chicken schnitzels and Wagyu beef burgers, to restaurant-style choices like a roasted vegetable stack (with Moroccan pumpkin cake and pesto) and a Thai green curry chicken. Guests also have a full bar, views over Sydney's Darling Harbour, attentive service and a delicious chocolate and hazelnut cake with ice-cream and mixed berry compote at their disposal.
