Sometimes it seems that the quality of food in an Asian restaurant is inversely proportional to the plainness of the decor. Take Ryo's Noodles for example. Serving perhaps the best ramen noodles in the city, this little den of goodness is located off the beaten track on an empty stretch of Falcon Street. The bright orange exterior makes the restaurant hard to miss, but if the colour doesn't catch your eye then the number of people milling about outside waiting for a table is sure to pique your curiosity. The perpetual line has everything to do with the steaming bowls that stream from the kitchen and nothing to do with the plain wooden tables they're served on.
The atmosphere is warm and inviting as people tuck into heart-warming dishes of noodles floating in a sea of nourishing chicken or pork stock. There are a few variations to choose from, but my personal fave is the ramen noodles in sour chicken stock soup with prawn mince balls. Otherwise try ramen noodles in spicy hot pork soup or cold dipping noodles with roast pork, egg and vegetables. Entrees include unbelievably good soy-boiled egg, and rice balls served with pickles, pork, cod roe or plum. BYO, ample parking and cheap prices are the icing on the cake.
