THE DECK CAFE RESTAURANT & BAR
Hunter Valley and Newcastle, New South Wales

Top10 Image
Great for a evening out with the family. Sit outside by the water where so many beautiful boats are moored, sip a cocktail and contemplate a breathtaking sunset ¡V never mind the amazing view. And be embraced by the warm Greek family who run the restaurant. The typically Mediterranean dishes that come from the flourishing kitchen just round it off.

This was our first visit to the Hunter Valley Wine region since the opening of the new Hunter Valley Freeway - and what a great road this is. So on our way home and en route to the freeway - we stopped in at the Gartelmann Vineyard and lunched at The Deck Cafe. What a pleasant surprise. Young and friendly staff, A North Western facing deck, A tranquil dam surrounded by vineyards and rippled by a multitude of birds dipping and diving and a menu to torment us with too many options. We shared and split a Corn frittas with house cured salmon gravlax and avocado with the Deck Mezze which consisted of Prosciutto, salami, salmon gravlax, roasted capsicum, labna, duck liver parfait, eggplant, zucchini and pinenut fritatta plus many other items. If truth be-known - the mezze plate would have sufficed. It was delicious - all of it. The corn frittas, crisp and very corny with mountains of gravlax. Ontop of that - great coffee. Then it was only 2 hours to Sydney. A great way to end a fantastic weekend.
