PROFILE BY BEST RESTAURANTS
From the moment one pulls up to the Park Hyatts manicured front lawn, it is apparent that this is an establishment proud of its history. Now heritage-listed, the original section of the hotel has been faithfully restored to its 1920's art deco glory, complete with knickerbockered porters holding open the large swinging doors as you enter. Walk straight through the lobby with its high ornate ceilings and you will enter into the tea lounge - a civilised, elegant room where there are no men and women, only gentlemen and ladies. The Hyatt has been serving afternoon tea for nearly 20 years.
Afternoon tea is served daily from 2.30pm till 5, and comes with complimentary champagne. You can choose from a selection of black and herbal teas or coffee, all served in fine china on silver trays that tinkle charmingly. Indulge yourself elegantly at the buffet with a finger sandwich, a slice of cake, or perhaps a fresh scone with jam and cream. On weekends morning tea is available between 10am-12pm and booking is essential. In the evenings the licensed lounge takes on a different feel as the lights dim and the candles are lit. Enjoy a cocktail or champagne in the most genteel ambience to be found in Canberra.
