Tequila Mockingbird can be found in a restored terrace house at Five Ways in Sydney's inner suburb of Paddington . Step into the freshly decorated cosy space with its black and white checked floor, copper seats and an enticing list of tequila cocktails. The theme is sophisticated Latin American cuisine with the menu featuring the likes of ceviche taco, red chimichurri and for those wanting to sample a bit of everything then the tasting menu is ideal. Tequila Mockingbird has three private areas for dining or entertaining cocktail style. The ground floor sits up to 30 people which has banquet style seating flowing out to a boutique covered courtyard.

Tucked away in a hidden Sydney laneway is the trendy and cosy Esteban. Inspired by Mexican and South American flavours, this isn't your everyday tacos and cocktails. Crafted by a creative team who have lived and travelled throughout South America, this is where you will find original dishes that hail from their homeland. The moody dark timbers and warm lighting create an opulent space that's perfect for celebrating with someone special or sharing with a close group for a good time.

Lunch Wednesday-Saturday from 12pm and dinner daily from 5pm

Chula brings colour and life to Potts Point as well as exceptional Mexican cuisine. The restaurant’s terracotta tones, faded photographs of Mexican scene, vintage cupboards, agave plants and religious motifs all add to the atmosphere. Run by Peter Lew and Nicole Galloway (Fei Jai, Barrio Cellar, and the late Barrio Chino), who have fallen for the bright, bold, bright cuisine and culture of Mexico. Enjoy your meal inside and outside seating under the black wicker lampshades overhead.

Ex-Rockpool chef Sean Prenter brings Mexican to the beach. This North Narrabeen restaurant serves hand-rolled tortilla's and delicious cocktails made with the freshest local produce. In true Mexican style, this authentic eatery offers small dishes of tacos, burritos, quesadillas and tapas intended for sharing across the table for a real communal Mexican experience.

Have you checked out Manly's bar scene lately? It's pumping. Almost as wildly as Chica Bonita – a tiny 20-seat Mexican eatery nestled off The Corso promenade. Mates Luke and Sean are behind the venture, and they seem to know how to reel in the crowds. Perhaps it's the Margarita-focused drinks list (served in handled jam jars with salted rims) or the tangy Mexican booze-soaking fare? Or maybe it's just the hip decor that has come straight from Tijuana in Mexico.

Visit between 4pm and 5pm on weekends for $10 margaritas and $5 tacos.

Glebe Point Road is a mecca for laid-back dining with a little bit of funk, which is why the fabulously fun Flying Fajitas Sistas is right at home. This cantina is one of Sydney's new breed of Mexican restaurants, enlightening diners with an authentic take on the cuisine. Sure, there’s burritos, tacos and lashings of hot sauce (look out for the one labelled “sudden death”), but you want to build your own fajitas, alongside a beer or tequila.

El Primo Sanchez is a fun Mexican bar and diner in Paddington's Oxford Street, a few kms from Sydney's CBD. The successful Maybe Group (Maybe Sammy is one of the worlds top 50 bars 2019-2022) is behind El Primo Sanchez. The interior is quirky, and so is the menu which includes creative bar snacks, Mexican tap beer and even more creative cocktails. With a generous dash of Tequila, of course

Taste a bit of vibrant Mexico in Sydney's bustling Barangaroo at Tequila Daisy.
