David Hagger's Recommendations

Best winery at Oakridge Wines Restaurant
Oakridge Wines in Yarra Valley is an award winning winery with magnificent views, impressive cellar door and restaurant, and sensational wines. A place to bring out of towners.
Best cafe at Reuben Hills
Reuben Hills is a uber cafe in trendy Surry Hills that sings with a cacaphony of first class cuisine exuding a playful touch, a chic ambience and top notch coffee. Reuben Hills is famous for the Fried Chicken with chilli in a basket (comes with expletive on the menu, fair enough). This fried chicken is cooked several different ways to keep the crispy outside and juicy inside, and the aoli and the chilli sauce are magnificent to accompany.
Best kept secret at The Town Mouse
Town Mouse is located in Drummond Street Carlton North, where once Embrasse thrilled punters with its fine dining. Maitre'd Christian McCabe and chef Dave Verheul have captured the imagination with unpretentious food full of technique and flair and top notch service. Slow roasted saltgrass lamb shoulder (900g), chargrilled cos, lemon, & tahini is one of the better presented and enjoyable lamb dishes in Melbourne.
Special occasion at Vue de Monde
Vue De Monde, Melbourne has unmatched views and sense of occasion. Duck egg, pear, saltbush, truffle is a triumph. So delicate is this dish, with big flavours of the duck egg, and sensational combination of textures with ooze and crunch.
Late night dining at MoVida
Late night dining = Movida Bar De Tapas, Melbourne is a sexy restaurant next to Australia's coolest laneway. I enjoy the Air-dried Wagyu with Poached Organic Egg and Truffle Foam. This is great theatre as the staff bring out this incredible looking dish then proceed to combine the egg and the foam before your eyes with a fork.
