MONEY ORDER OFFICE (CLOSED)
Melbourne, Victoria

Top10 Image
Down an obscure laneway off Little Burke Street, Money Order Office (affectionately known as MOO to those in the know), has had a makeover of late, transforming from its former life as a fine-diner into a more accessible tapas and wine bar. The opulent interior is still the same however, with leather chesterfields, parquetry floors and mood lighting creating a relaxing and intimate atmosphere that is best enjoyed with share food.

PROFILE BY BEST RESTAURANTS

If you haven't yet been to the Money Order Office you need to be prepared to get lost in a maze of Melbourne's laneways before you get your just desserts. Here is what you need to know; the Money Order Office (or MOO for short) is tucked away in Driver Lane, which is off Little Bourke Street. Keep your eye out for the doorway just past the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra box-office, then head on through and go down the narrow dimly lit steps. At the bottom you'll find a big glass door which will open automatically to reveal – ta da! – the Money Order Office. You could spend a few enjoyable weeks holed up in here, working your way through the wine list with delicious tid-bits from the bar menu to sustain you.

A makeover success ... from fine dining to fun tapas. Moo's grand dining background ensures that the transition to tapas is classy and interesting. With the monster wine list and designer beers on tap a great eating AND drinking venue has arisen. A magical sangria is prepared (but the recipe not shared). A 5 course dego was only $55 ....!! Worth the effort to find this place for a wonderful Melbourne experience.
