PROFILE BY BEST RESTAURANTS
Forget the dirt road becoming a bush track as the trees creep closer and you wonder where the hell you're going. A little patience and suddenly, there it is – a wonderful little cafe in a bush and bucolic setting where the food and views will make the bumps and doubts of the bush track all worthwhile. A modern architectural statement set against the rolling farmland and stunning views of the d'Entrecastreaux Channel, Fleurty's Cafe is a little rural gem; a worthy final adornment to one of Tasmania's most beautiful coastal drives south of Hobart.
As you sit inside or on the deck, you can see where the food on your plate came from: the berries from that paddock just there, vegies over there, the organic salad leaves from just down the road and the herb oils flavouring your dressings, vinegars, sauces and ice-creams from the owner's essential oils distillery on the property. The desserts are sumptuous, the coffee great. For something different, grab one of their hampers for a walk and picnic along a bush trail up to where the stillness, silence and views are even better.
