"My name is Shanker, I own the place", is said in such an endearing way on the phone it makes you want to go there and give the man a hug. His manner is familiar and encouraging, as in the way he stops to chat with people at their tables. Should one be curious about a dish untried, a taste may be enthusiastically offered. Starting his family's restaurant business over 30 years ago - 24 of them at Shanker's original Prospect locale - he has a history to tell. Perhaps you might hear of it within the surrounding white coated walls. Equally pristine linen and napery dress the tables set on polished floorboards, with ceiling fans and pendant lighting above.
Shanker is proud of his procured cellar which includes Parisian bubbles. His smart-thinking boutique beer list though hits just the spot. Give it some curry. The beef vindaloo surely must be paired with a drop from Moo Brew. The refreshing wheat beer Hefeweizan, will temper the heat from this bovid themed mating. And of course the egg and onion filled paratha should accompany the aforementioned curry of same ingredients. The layered, crisp flakey flatbread is perfect sponge for its savoury gravy. Prawns and fish make for slim pickings of the menu's seafood quota, so make sure you ask the man who owns the place when his next chilli crab night is.
