PROFILE BY BEST RESTAURANTS
Another "Ventura" of one of Adelaide's known Italian hospitality groups - think Fasta Pasta, Mesa Lunga, Ruby Red Flamingo, British India, and Singapore House – Osteria de Mesa attracts families out for a feed - to media, food, and wine types out to suss and be seen. The décor swings between charm and kitsch. Proud family portraits are hung on a wall, in contrast to imposter pork portions strung along the bar. Rich coloured wine barrels plastered with robust Mediterranean types wallowing in food, dance and song entertain in the alfresco area. It's an apt setting for basking in some "Barcelona Shine" – Osteria's rum punch with Frangelico, orange and passion fruit.
For more cocktails, sangria, sherry and wine, head to the afore-mentioned jamon bar. It is a charismatic, Spanish flavoured space with said decorative hams and tapas aplenty. Alternately, be seated in the restaurant for meals of meat, pasta, seafood and pizza along with sharing plates if it pleases. Crumbed veal stuffed with mortadella and provolone, grilled spatchcock with rosemary and lemon, Atlantic salmon with pesto, French beans and tomato, and the popular duck leg ragu see many return. The crema cotta al café – coffee crème caramel – will thank you for coming again.
