With a dining room that overlooks Moreton Bay, Oliver's at Manly is the quintessential Australian culinary experience. The menu is Modern Australian and, as expected, seafood is a speciality. Guests can select a fine wine to go with their meal from a concise but quality list. This beachside restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus coffee and cake in between.

Location, location, location. The success of many a restaurant has hinged on the location and hence the ambience of a place. Oliver's overlooking Manly Harbour has ambience in spades, with its white clothed tables and sophisticated European feel all ensconced in a moonlit shimmer and a cool summer breeze. Opening onto a terracotta tiled terrace, Oliver's exudes charm and is a perfect spot from which to overlook Moreton Bay while enjoying its fruits, namely seafood.

Seafood certainly takes prime position on the Modern Australian menu, which has a twist of Italian influence. Oysters aren't in short supply with four different options on offer: natural, Kilpatrick, Mornay and tempura. Entrees feature some enticing options such as creamy smoked salmon linguini with fresh rocket, or prawn and avocado salad with citrus dressing. Mains boast a number of fresh seafood options as well as something for the land lover. Get a taste of duck, stuffed veal or eye fillet steak. The grilled snapper dish with tomato-coriander sauce served with zucchini cakes, potato rosti and seasonal vegetables is the epitome of freshness. Desserts are hard to pass up with items such as creme brulee and fresh berries or profiteroles tempting the sweet tooth.

Terrible Service - Do not use this venue for your function! I have never received such despicable service in my life. I meticulously planned a high tea at this venue for 46 ladies, but unfortunately the rude, disorganised and incompetent staff completely ruined our day. I have tried to discuss my frustrations with the manager however they won’t even respond to me. To briefly summarise my terrible experience with Olivers: 1. The venue was not prepared for me to set up as arranged. Tables of diners remained even INTO my function time. The staffs attitude was ‘what am I supposed to do, the restaurant is full so you’ll just haveto wait until they leave' 2. As part of our package champagne was meant to be served on arrival. It wasn't. The staffs response was 'Did you bring champagne? Where have you put it?' 3. Gluten free arrangements I had made with the manager were completely ignored and nothing was prepared 4. The staff refused to serve tea and coffee! Even though our package included ‘bottomless tea and coffee’. They eventually ended up calling the manager and then started making cups of tea by the end of the function – 40 out of 46 guests had already gone home at this stage The ‘manager’ who I had arranged this function with didn’t even show, and then later was told she doesn’t even work there. She’s just a hired caterer. This high tea was for my sisters bridal shower which was ruined - Thanks for nothing Olivers!

Sunday 20th April 2013, my husband and I requested a table for 2 for lunch. We noticed a table on the footpath and asked if we could sit there to have lunch. The waitress told us it was a table for 3 and because there was only 2 of us we were unable to sit there. They obviously didn't want our business. As there are so many choices of eating places in Manly, this place must be doing extremely well to be able to turn away paying customers. They will never get our business.

Enjoyed a sensational 25th wedding anniversary lunch on New Years' Day 2012 with hubby. Unbelievable barramundi. Everything was wonderful. No wonder they are always so busy. Will definitely be back.
