NANTUCKET KITCHEN & BAR
Brisbane, Queensland

Top10 Image
Step inside Nantucket Kitchen & Bar and you'll feel like you're in the Hamptons, rather than Indooroopilly Shopping Centre. The sexy cafe and restaurant is all white timber, marble fireplaces and green fronds. The kitchen offers classic American dishes like crab cakes and pulled pork sliders, executed with care and finesse. Keep an eye out for anything that comes out of the charcoal oven - these dishes are guaranteed to be good. Champagne aficionados will be happy with the drinks menu, which also offers some cool cocktails.

PROFILE BY BEST RESTAURANTS

Being lovers of seafood, Southern cuisine (who isn’t), and good dining in the suburbs, we were almost guaranteed to fall in love with Nantucket Kitchen & Bar. Combining the best of all the above and then some, the Cape Cod inspired restaurant has brought more than a touch of Hamptons class to Indooroopilly’s Station Road Dining precinct since opening just over a year ago.

Inspired by the wonders of seaside East Coast USA, Nantucket aims to combine fresh, local produce like Moreton Bay bugs and Callide Valley pork with friendly service in a relaxed setting where friends, families and exhausted shopaholics can enjoy a meal at any time of day.

Any restaurant that offers ‘linner’ (a glorious lunch/dinner hybrid) is a winner in our books, but a menu that features speciality crab cakes with fennel slaw, bacon wrapped meat loaf and a range of boozy iced teas mean this restaurant is one we always return to again and again. As if that wasn’t enough to keep us coming back for seconds, there’s the clam chowder, the classic lobster mornay, delicious sides like mac ‘n’ cheese and salads such as the avocado bowl with cannellini beans and pine nuts – and the desserts! If you’ve got a hankering for some good old American cherry pie, Nantucket is the place to go. But with a charcoal oven roasting up goodness like slow braised lamb shoulder and 18 hour braised beef short rib, you might not want to leave the room.

For a quick breakfast before you hit the bus (or the shops), bacon, brie and egg stacked bagels or buttermilk pancakes with a side of the Caesar, a bacon loaded take on the Bloody Mary (after 10am only please), will ensure your day is a productive one. Or not depending on how many Caesars you down.

Being family friendly though, the restaurant has a tasty kids menu, which comes loaded on a viewfinder for some pre-dinner entertainment. There’s even room for prams in the spacious front room, so your next mother’s lunch can include their bottomless iced tea and a slice of that pie.

Also good to know is that Wednesday nights are BYO, so you might want to leave the kids at home for that one.

But you better step your usual suburban dinner attire up a notch if you’re dining here though, because in the luxurious dining areas (think Hamptons crossed with a touch of art deco), eating with NKB seems less like a casual dinner, and more like you’re stepping onto a US East Coast movie set.
