The Italians know how to do dinner right – always start with cocktails and arancini to get your tastebuds excited for the carb fest to come. And at Bucci on James Street, they’re sticklers for tradition, so they encourage a good apertivo hour at the bar before dinner. You can’t argue with tradition – especially not when it involves cocktails!

Apertivo hour at Bucci’s bar is from 5-7pm every day, with classic Italian cocktails and a complimentary snack to appease any growing hunger. Take a seat under their leafy fig tree and you’ll be treated to refreshing cocktails, paired with daily bar bites like grissini with prosciutto or stuffed olives. What better way to wind down a working day (or kick off a night)? Monday night drinking, here we come.

Whether you can only afford a small window of catch up time, or you’re ready to settle in for a night of Italian feasting, classic apertivo drinks like an Aperol Spritz or Negroni will get you in a socializing mood, expertly shaken by Bucci’s talented bartenders. If you’re game, sip your way through the entire apertivo list, which also includes the Americano with Campari and Vermouth, and the Hugo, with elderflower liqueur, Prosecco, mint and soda. There’s plenty of boutique wine on the drinks list too, but who would pass up the chance to sip those refreshing Aperol Spritzes?

Even if you didn’t plan to stay for dinner, those complimentary bites will have you drooling for more, so you’ll probably find yourself next door in the restaurant ordering at least three courses before you know it. Just because you’ve had a few bar bites doesn’t mean you can’t order a starter of fried corn gnocchi with spicy nduja, but you will want to leave room for the slow roasted pork belly stuffed with a secret herb and spice mix. A few more of those Aperol Spritzes and you’ll be rolling home.

Outstanding! Tried this place as a last minute 'where shall we go for lunch?' and was blown away. The sardine entree was out of this world (normally hate sardines), the service was good but the real feature was the food. Have raved to all my friends and going again this week. It won't be long before getting a booking at this place will be a challenge!
