THE CATBIRD SEAT BISTRO
Brisbane, Queensland

Top10 Image
Being in the "catbird seat" is the way you'd describe someone who's "sitting pretty" and with its quaint Parisian-inspired fitout and generous European menu, The Catbird Seat Bistro is indeed in an enviable position. The chic dining room is set in East Brisbane, a stone's throw from the Gabba. A raised open kitchen allows diners to see the chefs at work on high-end European ingredients like peck, sauerkraut, poussin, duck neck and the kitchen smokes, bakes, pickles and cures everything in-house.

PROFILE BY BEST RESTAURANTS

ith Brisbane’s radius for fabulous eating spots continuing to widen, The Catbird Seat Bistro has just opened in East Brisbane, serving up soulful food and wine in a relaxed, intimate environment.

Taking up residence on iconic Stanley Street, with a quaint, homely feel in their cosy dining room, they understand that nothing makes a great get together like good food and drink, something we can certainly appreciate.

Chef-owner James Guldburg’s European influenced menu is set to change regularly but currently boasts winter warmers like slow-braised goat with vintage carrots and poached quince, as well as rich dishes like wagyu beef with bone marrow and sauerkraut. As you might infer from those, a pretty diverse array of flavours has gone into the menu, with French and Scandinavian fare among the cuisines making an appearance. Sweet temptations include the upside down raspberry cheesecake, not a dessert but a very grown up cocktail.

Not ones to shy away from a bit of hard work, the Catbird kitchen is big on making their goodies in-house, doing everything from baking to smoking and curing. All their fresh produce is sourced from local markets and growers, and their coffee is as local as could be, roasted just around the corner at Cup Coffee Roasters in Woollongabba.

With all that, we think East Brisbane residents might just have a new favourite spot for tea.
