Combining the flavours of Espania with a warm community feel, El Bulli del Punto brings a vibrant hub of warmth and character to "the spot" in Randwick. Although it is not a large restaurant, it uses its intimate space to the best advantage, spreading a feeling of hospitality through the use of red tones and comfortable, decorative cushions. The dining room, which boasts wooden furniture and raw brick walls, feels a little like a cider cellar door – but perhaps one that would feel at home on the streets of Barcelona. This makes it the perfect place for indulging in some native Spanish sangria (made daily with fresh fruit). Alternatively you can ask the friendly, efficient staff for a Spanish wine or cocktail suggestion to kick-start your evening.

The restaurant does not compromise on its Spanish soul in the menu either. Here you will find a good selection of well-proportioned and flavoursome tapas, as well as larger meals (if you find it just that little bit too hard to share). The best way to try the full range of goodies, however, is tapas style. Order up some stuffed grilled mushrooms filled with pancetta, parsley and manchego cheese, croquettes filled with white sauce and ham and a dense Spanish omelette (made with potato, egg, brown onion and capsicum) and experience the Spanish flavour sensations. Naturally a tapas night wouldn't be complete without a serving of chorizo; have these pan-fried with Spanish onion and served with a cider glaze. Seafood lovers are also advised to try the gambas al ajillo (pan-fried prawns in garlic oil, salt and pepper with a hint of chilli oil). If you still have room at the end of your feasting session, order some churros (Spanish doughnuts)…or another jug of sangria.
