PROFILE BY BEST RESTAURANTS

If you love chocolate (and let's be honest, who doesn't?) then making a pilgrimage to San Churro chocolateria is like dying a divine little death and going to chocolate heaven. Named for the Spanish monk who spread the good word about chocolate, the San Churro concept kicked off in Melbourne's Fitzroy and has now blessed Glebe with its presence. Already a hit with the locals, San Churro is packed out on Saturdays with shoppers from Glebe markets wandering across the road, enticed by the smell of chocolate that fills the air. Touches of Spain in the form of mosaic arches and Spanish music compliment the rustic vibe of San Churro. Caramel coloured wooden floors, dark chocolate tables and moody lighting provide a cosy space in which to sit and worship the gods of milk, white and dark.

A mosaic artwork on the wall declares: "Treat yourself, treat somebody else. Everyone deserves chocolate". Well, amen to that. The menu at San Churro sticks exclusively to cocoa, giving you the perfect excuse to succumb to pure, unadulterated indulgence. The signature treat is the churro, a Spanish donut resembling a long, thin stick of golden goodness that arrives to your table dusted in icing sugar and accompanied by a pot of molten dipping chocolate. The hot chocolate at San Churro is thick and velvety, the way it's meant to be, while the selection of ice-cream made with real couverture is out of this world.
