Sydney, New South Wales

Walk beyond the vintage oak farmhouse door and step into La Grillade, a gourmand's playground with provincial French charm, right in the heart of Crows Nest. The historic dining room, with its cream-coloured shutters and spacious terrace has been the setting for many a power-lunch, but the service is friendly enough for more casual encounters, too. The award-winning menu offers French-inspired dishes, but is best known for the protein that comes off its grill.

When I moved my company to the building next door, my right hand man, Kevin, and I spent every lunch day and every second night at this restuarant ... loved it! Now I live in the US - my first port of call with every visit "back home" is this restaurant. And I will be back in October, 2013 after nearly 4 yrs away - so what's changed and are my intentions misplaced?

What an amazing transformation. La grillade has certainly been returned to its glory days. The new owners have made subtle but fantastic decor changes. Every area is truly unique - we wanted to sit in every room. The menu is decidedly French but with a unique modern flair - and there are some amazing steaks! Great wine list, really cool bar for a pre dinner drink or after work gathering. We had an amazing dinner here last Thursday night and I cant wait to go back - thank God we now have this gem back open on the North Shore!
