PROFILE BY BEST RESTAURANTS
Flaunting one of the best views of the eastern suburbs, Aquarium Bistro and Bar sits smugly on the top level of the Coogee Beach Palace Hotel. The sweeping panorama of Coogee beach is enough to bring a tear to many a British eye but the abundantly stocked bar quickly eradicates any wistful moments. Long, wooden tables dominate the outdoor area where groups of friends sit like boarding school students with the ocean breeze ruffling their bikini strings and keeping the drinks cool. When tummies begin to rumble, the bistro calls from inside offering delicious and good value meals to the hungry.
Nibble on some salt and pepper squid served with Asian dipping sauce or perhaps slurp down a dozen oysters to begin with. The "boards to share" options, such as the Italian meat board with salami, proscuitto, bresaola with spiced relish, fried camembert, tuna Campari pate and Turkish toast, are ideal for a snaking session with buddies. Otherwise, choose from Aqua favourites like king prawn chilli spaghetti tossed with white wine, basil, tomato and parmesan, or barbecue marinated pork spare ribs with hand-cut chips. There are plates of nachos and bowls of wedges for the grazers too. Wash your meal down with a cocktail or glass of wine from the bar and take in the aqua hues of the sea.
