My friend and I chose this place as it was busy - and we thought "must be good" wrong. Service, appallingly slow, presentation poor, english speaking service (little), the calamari I chose in a type of egg batter (tasted like sand), overpriced. I wanted to leave after waiting about 15 mins for food to appear - we should have.

In Sydney we have been spoiled for Chinese food in terms of taste, choice and price, Shanghai Stories brings us to more refined surroundings with the same busy bustle of Asian etiquette - strong voices, laughter and inviting aromas. The prices are scaled higher but reasonable for larger groups of friends. Service can be frantic and assertive but that hardly matters when you are similarly in boisterous conversation. Reviews often compare the dumplings of the restaurant but that misses the point. The beverage menu and the mains are standout offerings for the adventurous wanting to know more about Chinese cuisine. Not fusion, Chinese. The restaurant also nicely combines enough elements to appeal to families with children.
