Love China Doll - approaching "maybe" with China Diner. There has to be some corporate consistency if the restaurants all come out of the same stable. Firstly, on a cold and wet winter night - the Hot and Soup Soup was terrific - it was gloriously spicy and steaming hot. The lamb dumplings were gluggy and tasteless and the Special dumplings were doughy. Duck pancake was quite underwhelming - pancakes were good but the duck was very skinny and the bones not crunchy. The Rendang curry lacked the necessary heat. The Green Tea was plentiful and the pot refilled when necessary. This is a highly competitive dining region - and China Diner will need to lift its game if it is to belong to a successful restaurant family.
