PROFILE BY BEST RESTAURANTS
If you're looking for a great place to take the family for a delicious (and penny saving) meal, try your luck at Banyan Brasserie at the Canterbury Leagues Club. Sitting leisurely between the club's resort-like garden foyer and the greenery of the outside world, this spacious eatery not only offers generous restaurant and home-style meals, but is also easy on the eye. A chandelier-esque bird light feature adorns a circular banquette in the centre of the dining floor, while golden pot plants with tropical flora complement a long and shining buffet counter. The golden glow of Banyan is harmonised by simple brown cafe-style and weaved chairs and a feeling of unhurried relaxation.
The counter tempts with many a hot and cold delight however, if you're after a more traditional restaurant experience, Banyan also offers cooked-to-order meals. These range from succulent char grilled steaks to smoky barbecue pork ribs, seafood, burgers, roasts and home-style favourites like chicken schnitzel, salads and pasta. Carnivores will be delighted with the Banyan Grill Plate which is stacked high with pork cutlets, veal sausages, lamb skewers, pork ribs, honey soy chicken drumettes and salt and pepper squid. There is also a great kids' menu which feeds the little ones for under $7. And if you're in the mood for a bargain, you can make the most of Banyan's $9.90 daily dinner specials: Mon – chicken schnitzel night, Tue – seafood basket night and Wed – steak night. Thursday is members' night, which means full members can swipe their cards to get 50% off main counter meals. But even if you miss a specials night, you'll find the meals very affordable and generous. There's one other great thing about Banyan – it is home to a 24-hour cafe, ideal for late night (or very early morning) coffee and muffin cravings.
