LOCATION Il Borro estate skirts the old Setteponti road, the joining point of the principal Tuscan cities sitting in the basin of the Valdarno valley: Florence, Arezzo and Siena. It is a comfortable and very scenic drive south of Florence or north from Rome.
DETAILS To describe the Il Borro Estate as an idyllic holiday destination would be to undersell both the charm and majesty of its location, and the exceptional care that has been taken to restore its historic structures.
Spread over 700 stunning hectares at the foot of the Pratomagno Mountains in Val D’Arno, Il Borro is owned and run by fashion magnate Ferruccio Ferragamo and his family, who have transformed the rustic medieval Tuscan village into some of the region’s most exquisite private luxury accommodation and dining.
Il Borro has a long and fascinating history populated by the region’s most influential families including the Pazzis and the Medicis. Ferragamo began his love affair with the estate when he discovered it on a hunting expedition in 1985, and in the early 1990s he was lucky enough to purchase the slice of Tuscan landscape from the Duke of Aosta.
FOOD & BEVERAGEDining at Osteria del Borro takes guests on a journey into antiquated Italy with authentic flavours that respect traditional cooking methods and the abundance of local produce. Chef Roberto Bendinelli adds his own flourishes to classic dishes, such as handmade tagliatelle with rich porcini mushrooms and fragrant thyme, and taleggio cheese risotto with wine-steamed pear salsa. Hearty yet refined meals are perfectly accompanied by the estate’s range of boutique wines produced entirely on its nearby vineyard.
ACCOMMODATIONThe Il Borro estate boasts its range of charming private accommodation, including impeccably furnished vacation villas, farmhouses and private homes. Although designed with a faithful rural aesthetic in mind, Il Borro’s accommodation does not compromise on taste or the ultimate comfort of its guests. Weddings are often held in the picturesque Borro Church, located at the heart of the village, with revellers enjoying champagne cocktails in the piazza before attending the wedding feast in the Osteria.
