DETAILSInside, patrons are intercepted at all turns by rich mahogany furniture, art deco accents and curious Chinese and European antiques that transform the dining space into a nostalgic tableau of Shanghai’s rich history. Outside, enchanting magnolia trees, peacefully swimming goldfish and smiling Buddha statues create a sheltered sanctuary in which to while away an afternoon or enjoy one of Yongfoo’s frequent open-air opera concerts.
FOOD AND BEVERAGESuperb Shanghainese food is simply the final brushstroke in this ambient picture. Chef Ding Yonquiang cooks up delicious Shanghai dishes inspired by the recipes of China’s aristocratic families, ensuring a delicate balance between sweet and savoury flavours. The menu is constantly updated and includes Shanghai signatures like pan-fried hairy crab roe and steamed pear with glutinous rice stuffing. There are three stylish bar areas, each with its own character, from the colourful and contemporary Mission Bar, to the sexy, decadent Starshine Nook Bar. As its name suggests, the Yongfoo Elite used to be an exclusive members only club, but now most areas are open to the public who have flocked to soak up Yongfoo’s tranquil gardens, artfully cluttered interiors, chic bars and traditional Shanghainese fare.
