LOCATIONA few minutes’ drive from the central Corso del Rinascimento, on Vicolo dei Soldati.
DETAILSIl Convivio Troiani occupies a beautiful 16th century building, in which three dining rooms vary in space and décor yet offer a calming neutral colour palette and extra-attentive service throughout. The main area, appropriately named ‘Sala L’Affresco’, is a vaulted-ceiling space adorned with earthy-toned frescoes depicting Roman architecture and surrounds, while ‘Sala Il Chiostro’ is a light-filled space lined with large windows and whitewashed walls. Finally, ‘Sala Le Volte’ adds a touch of grandeur with golden draped curtains and oversized antique mirrors. Black-clad waiters pride themselves on unobtrusive service that offers the utmost in professionalism.
FOOD & BEVERAGEThe Troiani brothers are known for their high standards in seasonal produce, producing an a la carte menu that often varies week-to-week. Throughout, dishes are inspired by contemporary flavour combinations and traditional European cooking techniques. A signature entrée is the zucchini flower stuffed with buffalo mozzarella and anchovies, deep-fried in a light batter and served immediately with a piquant hot and sour red pepper sorbet. The restaurant is also known for its degustation menu, offering the likes of gorgonzola crème brulee with port ‘ice’. Specialties from the surrounding Lazio region with unique twists also feature, such as vermicelli pasta with an ‘amatriciana’ sauce of tomato, pork cheek, pecorino cheese and black peppercorns – a modern take on the traditional pasta dish, bucatini all'amatriciana with tomato, onion, bacon and a dash of cognac.
