DETAILSMinimalist décor seems to be a feature of most of Chang’s ventures – where earthy hued tones meet a triumph of blonde wood, recalling the modernist tradition with an element of oriental charm. It’s a majestic space, with tall-topped bench stools that line the bar and a smattering of bare tables that are strategically placed a long the side of the room.
FOOD & BEVERAGEWell there is no denying that the pork buns are good. A fragrant, flavourful symphony of tender pork belly and deep-pink shredded shoulder with green onion and cucumber, delicately swathed in a floury white mantou. When it comes to the ramen however, although Chang has done a wonderful job elevating the concept of noodling in the eyes of the American public, the dish itself has been questioned for its authenticity and price tag. A beautifully poached egg mounted on top is its saving grace, as well as the conspicuously fresh toppings of scallions, slivered snow peas and bamboo shoots. Other daily delights include the likes of rabbit terrine with maitake, arugula, and buckwheat whilst an assortment of innovative main meals changes with the seasons. Desserts are interesting too.
FUNCTIONS Momofuku Noodle Bar hosts fried chicken parties for 4-8 guests, which must be reserved four weeks in advance. Diners will be treated to two whole fried chickens, one southern style, and one Korean style. Mu shu pancakes, bibb lettuce, four sauces and an assortment of seasonal vegetables accompany the banquet.
