LOCATIONLocated at the ABC Carpet & Home department store, on lower Broadway.
DETAILSThe fit-out is truly charming, and feels as though you have stepped inside the enthrall of a fairy garden party. The space is replete with delicate, light wooden floors, and clean white tables set with wildflowers, and matching chairs. There is also a melange of rustic ‘goodwood’ tables made from sustainably harvested materials that just so happen to be available for sale at the ABC Home store as well. Pendant lights and detailed white chandeliers hang from robust timber beams, whilst black and white paintings that capture the majesty of the natural realm, adorn the roughly textured white walls.
FOOD & BEVERAGEJean-Georges Vongerichten delivers farm-to-table cooking with excellence, imagination, and the perfect amount of locavore pretension. Begin with a market-table dish of tender roasted beets with lovingly house-made yoghurt or a colourful heirloom tomato platter with a fragrant marinade of chilli and basil. Appetizers consist of fresh line-caught tuna marinated with ginger and mint, as well as a beautifully presented dish of warm field greens with crispy prosciutto, farm egg and sherry vinaigrette. There are some exciting pastas and whole-wheat pizzas incandescent with flavour and soft charred crusts. For the best of main-course (or entrée as it is confusingly called in America) select from wood-oven roasted main lobster doused in oregano and lemon-chilli vinaigrette or the roast suckling pig with plum and smoked bacon marmalade and braised turnips. Dessert presents an accessible list of full-flavoured puddings, cakes and slices, with an all-American sundae taking the top spot. Think salted caramel ice-cream, candied peanuts and popcorn, topped with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. A post-prandial stroll amongst the antique furniture collection on the tenth floor of the ABC Home store will definitely be in order, or maybe just a blood orange bellini to wash it all down.
