LOCATIONOn the corner of Belgrave Mews and Kinnerton Streets in Knightsbridge.
DETAILSThe modern, light interiors of Petrus have been designed by the acclaimed Russell Sage Studio, who has used a gentle palette of oyster, soft silver and copper tints, as well as dashes of the famous Petrus claret red throughout the room. There are enclaves of beautifully plush lounge chairs, with velvet upholstering and wine coloured leather backs with matching ottomans and delicate round side tables.
The main dining area features strategically placed white linen-set tables along a sweeping carpeted floor, as well as a claret feature wall with ambient sconce lighting. The most striking feature is an elliptical glass-walled wine cellar in the centre of the room, bringing to view over 1500 bottles of wine. Within the wine list are over thirty Pétrus vintages.
FOOD & BEVERAGEThe modern French menu has been developed by Executive Chef Mark Askew and Head Chef Sean Burbidge to combine classic flavours with exquisite presentation. There is a menu de jour, a la carte, vegetarian and chef’s choice selection, all of which feature innovative, posh dishes that are robust in flavour. For entrée dine on the likes of pressed foie gras with confit duck, blackberries and cob nuts or octopus carpaccio, doused in an orange and ginger salsa with goujons and rocket. Main course presents sumptuous, seasonal delights including fillet of Casterbridge beef with braised ox tongue and ale sauce as well as roasted vendée pigeon with creamed cabbage, pancetta and prune sauce. Desserts are equally delectable with a star anise crème brûlée accompanied by caramelized pear and liquorice hitting all the right sweet notes. There is only one bottle of wine below £35 on the 32-page list and many, many north of £1,000. For a restaurant named after, decorated in homage to, and featuring many of a particular fine French wine, that is no surprise. Quality does not come cheap.
