LOCATIONFive minutes from Subiaco and 10 minutes from Perth CBD.
PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAOnce upon a time Subiaco used to be a favourite destination for grown ups to enjoy dinner and drinks at a fine restaurant, but it seems things are changing – or perhaps I’m just getting older. As the beloved Subi becomes overrun with twenty-somethings looking for a good time, the serious foodies among us have begun looking elsewhere for a place with fine cuisine and wine without the hooligans. Thankfully, just five minutes away, the affluent suburb of Shenton Park has come to the rescue with the recent opening of a handful of great restaurants. One of these life-savers is The Suite.
With a cosy interior featuring charcoal grey and bare brick walls, pendulum lighting and chesterfield sofas, it’s already an obvious choice for those chasing great food or a quiet cocktail. The Suite never seems to close and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. As the sun sets and the open fireplace roars to life, the evening menu presents lots to like. Most of the dishes are designed to share, tapas-style, but nobody will stop you from devouring the tequila-cured salmon with radish and fennel all on your own. It’s almost too good to share. Otherwise there’s the mushroom and thyme tart with rocket salad, crab raviolo with sauce vierge and a lovely charcuterie board worth sampling. The beef rump with winter vegetables and jus, and the fish of the day are larger-portioned dishes more suitable if you’re after a main meal for one. Monday nights are the domain of wine and cheese; you can sample some of the world’s finest to wash away the Monday blues and guarantee a great start to the week. Sounds “
suite” to me!
