Word’s can’t quite capture the beauty of the Swan Valley but a seat by the window at Penny Garden Restaurant, you will find yourself surrounded by rolling vines, meandering waterways and lush natural bushland. Penny Garden Restaurant is a foodie’s oasis. Head Chef Earl Mashmett has developed a contemporary modern Australian menu that showcases the freshest, local ingredients. But the greatest appeal of a place like Penny Garden Restaurant is the warm hospitality of the Patten family and their service was rewarded as finalists in the 2011 Savour Australia Awards for Excellence.

DETAILS
The unassuming exterior resembles a large agricultural shed with its corrugated white walls, concrete floors and a melange of undemanding tables and chairs. The interior however, is a lovely open-space filled with natural light that dapples into expansive glass windows that line the back wall. It offers diners views over the dam, vines and surrounding paddocks, perfect to savour over a lazy weekend lunch.

FOOD & BEVERAGE
Chef Earl Mashmett has created a diverse menu serving a well-rounded selection of goodies from breakfast through to dinner. Begin the day with a hot-on-eggs breakfast menu that features three egg omelettes, eggs Benedict and Florentine followed by a lunch/dinner menu full of equally tasty meals. Dine on the likes of eggplant rolls and salmon patties for something light, or fresh from the pan dishes like chicken and chorizo risotto or pesto and mushroom tortellini with fresh parmesan. Other belly fillers include tender lamb shanks lovingly braised in a rich tomato and root vegetable sauce served on creamy royal blue potato mash with steamed peas, or try the twice cooked roast duck served on a caramelised pear with seasonal steamed vegetables, and topped with a sweet wine and fetta sauce. There is also a lovely selection of home-baked pastries and cakes for dessert.

LAMB FILO - Tender lamb fillet sauteed with mushrooms & basil pesto, rolled in filo pastry and baked until golden, served with potato mash and a medly of roasted vegies, with a splash our special homemade red wine sauce | $31.50

BEEF POT ROAST - Tender beef cheek slowly braised in a rich red wine sauce with mirepoix of vegies & herbs, served on creamy potato mash with steamed peas, topped with horseradish cream | $32.50

CARAMELISED BABY BEETROOT TART - Blue cheese, onion, spinach, leek & fetta in a puff pastry shell, topped with caramelised baby beetroot, served with chips and our special housemade salad | $26.50
