Winning a multitude of awards for their superior fresh cuisine, Dear Friends have certainly proven they have what it takes to be known as a fine dining restaurant in Perth’s picturesque Swan Valley. Winning the 2008 Gold Plate award for Best Licensed Dining in the city/metro area, new owners Kelli and Kiren Mainwaring have boosted this restaurant to new heights since taking over in 2007. The husband and wife team have breathed new life into the already popular restaurant with a more youthful air about the place and a splendid new menu. Kiren has put his travelling experience to good use in the kitchen, where many a masterpiece is created.
Sourcing the most sought after ingredients from around the world and using only the freshest seasonal produce is paramount to Kiren. Without these solid, culinary basics diners would not have the pleasure of feasting on entrees like the Confit Breast of White Rocks Veal or the Gidgegannup Marron with Granny Smith and celeriac remoulade. The menu is easy to read and the number of dishes is kept to a minimum, once again proving quality not quantity is the way forward. Of the six dishes available on the mains menu, there’s really nothing that I personally would not recommend. Every dish, whether it be the Rolled Saddle of WA Rabbit, or the Roast Margaret River Wagyu Beef, is presented with absolute attention to detail and the flavours and cooking techniques are equally impressive. Kelli and Kiren also pride themselves on their wine list, boasting a range of local and international drops all of which have been handpicked to compliment menu items. If you’ve never been to Dear Friends or haven’t been since Kelli and Kiren took the reigns, book a table now. It’s well worth the drive.
