Designed by owners Barry Scrivener and Robyn Meloury, Black Swan sits on an elevated position taking full advantage of its scenic surroundings with the clever use of floor to ceiling openings to expose uninterrupted views of the Darling Range landscape. HISTORY
Black Swan Winery & Restaurant is steeped in local history, with the first vines planted in 1941. Formerly known as Gidney’s Corner, the property was purely an operating vineyard consisting of varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz vines. Through years of various ownerships, husband and wife team Barry Scrivener and Robyn Meloury purchased the property in 1998 and named it Black Swan Wines. With extensive repairs and maintenance to the vines and property, Black Swan produced its first vintage in 2001 and in its debut was awarded gold medals for their Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Black Swan Wines continues to be recognised for its achievements and has since received various awards and accolades that make them a much respected part of the Swan Valley.
FOOD
The emphasis on freshness and quality is evident as you peruse through the impressive menu created by Head Chef Jamie Skinner. Special lengths have been taken to source premium produce, such as Wagyu Beef and the tender Kurobuta Pork which hails from NSW. Chef Skinner also makes full use of the property’s large organic garden containing a variety of herbs and vegetables, which undeniably finishes the dish off. The menu selections are diverse, and bring forward the eclectic style of Chef Skinner resulting in a ‘valley’ interpretation of Modern Australian cuisine which has proved to be a winner amongst locals and visitors alike.
WINE
Practising traditional vineyard techniques coupled with the maturity of the vines, has resulted in Black Swan producing premium wines that are inherent with the Swan Valley. The award-winning range can be purchased at cellar door or simply be enjoyed during your meal. Black Swan also offers an assortment of premium drops from Australia and around the world, including local and boutique beers that are sure to satisfy everyone’s taste.
FUNCTIONS
The versatility of Black Swan Winery & Restaurant makes it suitable to hold anything from a conference meeting of 20, to an elaborate wedding reception of 200. Alongside the spacious interior of the venue is a beautiful garden area which spills onto the vineyard, allowing guests to enjoy the vast natural surroundings and bask in the wonderful sunlight.
