James Squire's very own pub, the Generous Squire is a great addition to Perth's drinking and restaurant scene, offering diners delicious pub-grub and an amazing interior within a prime location. Found in the heart of the CBD, the bar itself is conceptually beautiful, with a great mix of indoor and outdoor spaces, while the Modern Australian menu conveniently divides the menu into the classics, pizzas, share-plates and mains. Dishes come with beer pairings from the James Squire collection, or simply opt for your favourite on tap.
On the corner of Shafto Lane and Murray Street, minutes walk from the central train station and main malls.

I, for one, have been eagerly watching the space on the corner of Murray Street and Shafto Lane in Perth’s CBD. This particular site has been home to many cocktail bars and failed eateries over the years, so when I saw beer vats being set up inside my interest spiked. Opening just a few weeks ago, The Generous Squire is a micro brewery operated in collaboration with James Squire Brewery, that is so much more than just a pub. For one, it has a fabulous location that’s already proved to be a hit with passers-by and local workers. Secondly, it sports an oh-so-sophisticated interior minus the pretence you might expect at a venue as groovy as this.
Being a micro brewery, fresh icy beer is a given but the chef at The Generous Squire is serving quality food that matches the wine and beer list perfectly. Even if you only have time for a quick middy and nibbles there’s plenty of choice on the share, pizza and snacks menu – a tasting plate, open steak sandwich or Squire’s fish and chips all make appealing options. Serious cuisine contenders will be frothing at the bit over the “Throw Net” with marinated squid, prawns, mussels, snapper and chilli with linguini, chilli and garlic. The “Paddock” menu offers a sumptuous range of chicken and steak choices like the “Convict’s Tucker Bag” complete with a 300 gram rump steak served with field mushrooms, fried egg, chips and your choice of sauce. As most venues of this style go, servings are of generous proportion and won’t leave you hungry. Just what you need for a night at a micro brewery!
