One of Perth's most iconic corner restaurants has recently undergone a major facelift to create Reds Cucina - where rustic Italian fare meets great service. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Reds Cucina never seems to close. It's not reinventing the wheel, but the good dose of Italian love has transformed this piece of real-estate heaven into one of the better restaurants to have inhibited the space.

Just metres from Luna Cinema and Leederville train station, and five minutes from Perth CBD.

Taking over the premises of one of Leederville's most iconic corners is a very big venture. But then again, when the predecessor has been serving up disappointing dishes and slack service for the past decade, it is time for someone to step in and take the venue to its full potential.

Reds Cucina is the new restaurant on the corner of Oxford and Newcastle Streets in Leederville and since opening, has been brimming with diners. A complete makeover has seen the drab terracotta tiles and dusty faux flowers replaced with new polished floorboards, vibrant red walls and enthusiastic staff. The welcomed overhaul is thanks to new owners Roberto Introvigne and Eleonora Ventrice, who between them share 17 years experience in the industry. Pulling on their Italian heritage, Roberto and Eleonora have created a menu that's rustic and unpretentious.

This dinner begins with stuzzichi (teasers) - Reds' Italian take on tapas. The delightful morsels designed to whet your appetite range from chickpea fritters with smoked speck and Camembert, to arancini stuffed with ragout, peas and mozzarella that would shine even brighter with a little seasoning.The hero of the mains is the home-made pasta. From spaghetti marinara to ravioli zucca filled with pumpkin, parmesan and almonds in a fresh thyme butter sauce. Each pasta dish is made with the best of Australian ingredients and fresh herbs to create robust Italian flavours and accentuate the quality of the pasta. Squid tubes stuffed with seafood and laced with capers, parsley and garlic are given edge with parmesan cheese. Lamb loin chops marinated in rosemary and balsamic are nearly outshone by accompanying crispy roast potatoes whose golden shell encases soft steamy innards.

I have just had wonderful dinner at REDS in Leederville: simply fantastic! The new menu offers many choices, and everything sounds amazing! Good service and great prices!Can't wait to go back to try out the new Mexican special!review  19/06/2013

Eaten there twice and both times found staff attentive, accommodating to our requests and the food tasty in a happening atmosphere. I would go back any day so not a bad spot for a couple to have a good evening out with a bottle of  26/01/2013

So incredibly diappointing in every way. Dont even feel like taking the time to write this but to save others the waste. The veggies on my plate was 2 slices of raw carrot and 1 piece wilted brocolli. The waitress couldnt tell me what the fish was and looked very annoyed when I asked her to find out. The hi -light of the meal was penne that I could make better at home. And dont take anything for granted - the cheesecake was bland and gluggy - I think the first time that I have ever not enjoyed cheesecake. BTW dont expect lower prices for the bad food. The spot is nice for the atmosphere but dont have more than 2 on the table as it is too noisey to hear each other. In a word -  04/03/2012
