If you have an open mind, are craving a venue with a difference and have a penchant for pink, then I have just the restaurant for you.

Pink Zulu is a place you won’t escape your memory quickly. The interior flirts with fashion and flamboyance, dominated by a bright pink, grey and black pallette. Intricate silver candelabras, ostrich covered ottomans and African beads tie the restaurant together with admirable style.

Once you’ve absorbed your larger-than-life surroundings, you may even stop to notice the level of service being lavished upon you. Spunky yet professional staff glide between tables with an air of grace and attentiveness, particularly when it comes to explaining the menu.

If you thought the décor was an eye-opener, you’ll be excited for the selection of African-inspired dishes on offer, all served on black plates and each creatively including an element of pink. Starters feature Zambezi crispy croquettes of prawn and crocodile that mop up pink prickly ash and caper dressing, or the impressive Khuphashe Senegal layered mango on crayfish and avocado salad, with a coconut foam and pink sugar rim. These dishes really have to be seen (and tasted) to be believed.

Dishes also hail from the grill, pot and fire, and all carry that distinct Pink Zulu flair in presentation and flavour. The piri-piri seafood of deliciously fresh fish, prawns and scallops packs a perky punch in the spice department and finishes in refreshing lime. Try the traditional flavours of the South African Cape Malay community in the king prawn curry potjie - a spiced slow-cooked stew that favours its Asian influences.
