Pata Negra

On a winter afternoon we had cleared our deadlines and were looking for something different. We had driven past Pata Negra many times and were intrigued by the blackboard offerings outside. We arrived more at happy hour than dinner time and without a reservation. We were greeted warmly and sat at a tall bar-like bench and ordered Billecarte by the glass, which was a nice surprise. We chatted with Adam about wine, Spain, East Malaysia and good food. Then the dishes started; first Jamon Iberico, it’s worth it; anchovy, ox-tongue then black pudding with a break for me to talk through and try the Tempranillo with a brief lesson in Spanish pronunciation then back to the blackest paella, great menu, brilliant palate. As diners arrived, we were heading home. My advice, go early, spend a few dollars and you will get the best mixture of theatre and real tapas in this part of the world. 25/06/2011
