Its 'Morocco meets Marbella' in this modish and eclectic combination of what is Pata Negra. David Coomer’s second instalment has elevated the much proverbial tapas onto higher ground, with quality and simplicity being the key. The menu runs deep with Moorish and Middle Eastern influence, resulting in food which is rustic yet resplendent at the same time.
Pata Negra now open for lunch every Friday

PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIA
Dark and retro in look and Spanish in feel, Pata Negra successfully combines the matching of Iberian influences with Middle Eastern mood. A heady mix of amber-coloured glass against charcoal-coloured walls prepares you for an intoxicating assault on the senses which leaves you wanting more. David Coomer, owner and chef of award winning restaurant Star Anise, has propelled his versatility into another part of the culinary world. Together with head chef Kurt Sampson, the menu echoes Moorish influences combined with Middle Eastern flair that stems from Kurt’s work with Greg Malouf of Momo’s fame.

Pata Negra - User Reviews

haleandhearty:

On a winter afternoon we had cleared our deadlines and were looking for something different. We had driven past Pata Negra many times and were intrigued by the blackboard offerings outside. We arrived more at happy hour than dinner time and without a reservation. We were greeted warmly and sat at a tall bar-like bench and ordered Billecarte by the glass, which was a nice surprise. We chatted with Adam about wine, Spain, East Malaysia and good food. Then the dishes started; first Jamon Iberico, it’s worth it; anchovy, ox-tongue then black pudding with a break for me to talk through and try the Tempranillo with a brief lesson in Spanish pronunciation then back to the blackest paella, great menu, brilliant palate. As diners arrived, we were heading home. My advice, go early, spend a few dollars and you will get the best mixture of theatre and real tapas in this part of the world.review 25/06/2011
