Following great success at their Northbridge restaurant, Maya Masala is now open in Perth's west end serving fabulous curries to local corporate clientele. There seems to be a renaissance of Indian restaurants happening in Perth and Maya Masala is right up there with the best. Their first restaurant opened in Northbridge years ago and has created quite a name for itself with traditional curries and great value for money. So when Maya Masala recently opened their second restaurant at QV1 Building, it was very well received. If your business is Indian food, the stakes are high in this part of town with this latest addition making it the third Indian restaurant on this stretch of Hay Street. All located within a few hundred metres of each other, the question needs to be asked - what does Maya Masala have that the other two don't?
Well for starters, it has a very funky interior that combines comfort with warmth in bold colours and furnishings. In saying that, I'm a little confused about the plastic plates and cutlery, even for those dining in. Then of course there's the food. Catering mostly to the corporate lunch crowd, there's a selection of curries in a bain-marie that are quick to arrange for dine-in or take away. So if you want to enjoy QV1's waterfall, you can do so within just a few steps. The "combo curries" are a great idea for lunch with your selection of curries, rice and a pappadum all for under $15. There are also plenty of vegetarian options such as dhal, palak paneer and curried potato. Indian favourites like rogan josh, butter chicken, gosht saagwalla and Tandoori-style dishes are plentiful but you must try the goat curry for a real Maya Masala treat. This place is also open for breakfast if you're game to start your day with a difference.
