Often likened to tapas, meze is the Greek word for a dish that is served alone or with others to enhance the taste of drinks. Anyone who has been to Greece will know the afternoon ritual of meze is usually accompanied by beautiful wine or a glass of ouzo. At George’s Meze, located on a quiet street in Subiaco, regulars claim they have found their very own slice of Greece. His selection of meze is as traditional as they come and features the best in local produce. Fremantle octopus, dips with hot pita bread, or a mixed sausage platter are all great choices to get your Greek experience underway.

For a little bit of everything, try the meze platter for two featuring keftedes, kolokitho keftedes, spicy sausage, saganaki and calamari. And don’t be embarrassed about asking your waitperson what’s what – they do a superb job of describing George’s food. For those after something a little more substantial there is an impressive range of mains to choose from. Greek favourites such as spanakopita, moussaka and souvlakia take centre stage although you’d be hard pressed to be disappointed by anything on this menu. If you’re on your own, fear not – George will make you feel at home. He may even challenge you to a game of chess.
