There’s nothing better than sitting down to a freshly made woodfired pizza after a spot of serious retail therapy. Subiaco’s Rokeby Road is known for its cosmopolitan atmosphere and array of fashion boutiques, not to mention a handful of stellar bars and eateries.

It is here that you’ll discover the small yet stylish pizzeria known as Ecco! With an attractive interior of all things European like San Pellegrino bottles, mosaic tiling and a gorgeous little Italian man flipping pizza dough in the air, you’ll be forgiven for forgetting you’re in Subiaco.

Without an air of pretentiousness, the staff make everyone feel welcome and ‘the little Italian man’ gives pint-sized diners knobs of pizza dough to play with while they wait for their dinner.

Dining on pizza may not be everyone’s cup of tea but when it’s made Ecco! style, using the freshest of ingredients piled on light, crispy bases, it’s hard to resist a slice or three. The classics such as margherita, Hawaiian and napolitana are given gourmet glamour while there are some creative concoctions like broccoli and pancetta with mozzarella and chilli oil, or garlic prawns with roast capsicum and fresh pesto for contemporary tastes. The tomato, mozzarella and prosciutto pizza topped with fresh rocket embodies all the hearty Italian flavours in a textural combination and is a favourite of the night.

There is more than just golden discs to the menu with a daily roast which today is polpette (home-made meatballs), and delightful nibblies include arancini, pan-fried baby calamari and salsiccia.
