It’s been a while since I’ve been to Cream restaurant in East Perth yet every time I drive past it, a sense of relief washes over me just knowing it’s still there. So when I finally made the time to return to one of my favourite restaurants, I seriously wondered why I left it so long between visits. The interior hasn’t changed but nor did it need to. An obvious 1970s ambience sets the mood with dim lighting, suede booths, furry red walls and rich furnishings. Owning and running the restaurant is John Mead and his wife Maria who do a splendid job between the floor and the kitchen.
The menu at Cream changes frequently to accommodate the shifting seasons, so while you may stumble across a different menu on each visit you can always be assured of the quality and immaculate flavours of each dish. You might begin with an interesting and unique creation such as a retro-inspired double crumbed French brie with redcurrant glaze, rocket and roasted pear salad or the king prawn and chicken spring rolls with Thai salad and dipping sauce. Portions are not overly huge but certainly not stingy, leaving you enough room to indulge in a three-course meal. With homemade pasta and what has to be one of the best risottos in town, my choice was easy. It was either the tagliatelle of boneless lamb shank with tomato, oregano, roast capsicum and Persian fetta or the chilli crab and king prawn risotto. I was super-satisfied after the latter arrived at my table. Once again, my experience at Cream left an ever-lasting impression that I vow to experience again very soon.
