It’s been a while since I’ve been to Cream restaurant in East Perth yet every time I drive past it, a sense of relief washes over me just knowing it’s still there. So when I finally made the time to return to one of my favourite restaurants, I seriously wondered why I left it so long between visits. The interior hasn’t changed but nor did it need to. An obvious 1970s ambience sets the mood with dim lighting, suede booths, furry red walls and rich furnishings. Owning and running the restaurant is John Mead and his wife Maria who do a splendid job between the floor and the kitchen.

The menu at Cream changes frequently to accommodate the shifting seasons, so while you may stumble across a different menu on each visit you can always be assured of the quality and immaculate flavours of each dish. You might begin with an interesting and unique creation such as a retro-inspired double crumbed French brie with redcurrant glaze, rocket and roasted pear salad or the king prawn and chicken spring rolls with Thai salad and dipping sauce. Portions are not overly huge but certainly not stingy, leaving you enough room to indulge in a three-course meal. With homemade pasta and what has to be one of the best risottos in town, my choice was easy. It was either the tagliatelle of boneless lamb shank with tomato, oregano, roast capsicum and Persian fetta or the chilli crab and king prawn risotto. I was super-satisfied after the latter arrived at my table. Once again, my experience at Cream left an ever-lasting impression that I vow to experience again very soon.

LOCATION
Cream is a back street gem nestled in the upbeat East Perth neighbourhood (aprox 5 mins from the CBD).

DETAILS
Cream is a mecca for foodies and locals alike. Warm, relaxed and very smooth best describes
Cream's vibe, with hip cocktails, mod-oz fare and a very handsome wine list. Chef owner John Mead and his wife Maria personally designed and conceived Cream based on a restaurant they would most like to dine in, this is apparent in the seventies lounge inspired mood lit interior. Chocolate suede booths, fur lined walls and a funky jazz baseline set the scene for intimate dining with friends.

FOOD & BEVERAGE
The menu changes bi-monthly and is based on smart modern comfort food with influences from the Mediterranean, Middle East and Asia. John uses sound classical techniques to transform simply beautiful ingredients into tasty polished food that nourishes the soul. Everything with the exception of the New Norcia Bread is made in-house with passion and care. The wine list includes a reserve list which provides an eclectic selection of food driven local and international wines. Riedel stemware is served with the cellar wines.

FUNCTIONS
From swanky cocktail parties to intimate dinners, the care and attention to detail at Cream is a rare find. John can tailor a superb menu for any occasion.

Reviews

From the minute you walk in to Cream, you are instantly impressed by the warm cosy atmosphere. The wait staff were completely unpretencious and unnoticable, the service was impecable. The menu was perfect. We all tried something different and were all impressed. A winner was the crumbed brie, I can still taste it...out of this world, as was the braised beef...this melted in your mouth, literally! and dessert...well where do I start. This meal was enjoyed by myself and 5 close girlfriends and was the absolute highlight of our girls weekend away..thank you so much. We'll be back!! xx

Last night my partner and I did a candlelit dinner for two here. I was after something quiet, romantic, subdued... but also new and hot and top notch quality. Oh... my... God. First time I'd ever been there but it quickly rocketed it's way up to #3 in my top 5 best restaurants in Perth (coming after Zafferano and Jackson's). Setting was cosy with black and dark red faux-fur on the walls, low red lighting and tealight candles. The service was impeccable and the food was, in a word, divine. Lemon and goat's cheese soufflé to start, accompanied by lemon dressed rocket and seared scallops - which were, just quietly, the best quality and best cooked scallops I've ever had. Ever. My partner had the pork belly for main, served with a feta strudel and I had the Thai salad with crispy duck leg. All the food was just incredible. Cooked to perfection, it was just a joy to eat and I was incredibly, incredibly impressed with every aspect of our dining experience at Cream. I fully intend to return - and soon.
