LOCATION
Subiaco’s main street, just minutes walk from Subiaco train station and five minutes’ drive from the city.

PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIA
Subiaco is known as one of Perth’s premier suburbs for clubs, pubs, designer boutiques and fine dining. So when Bistro Felix opened its doors on Rokeby Road a few years ago, locals and food fanatics wasted no time booking reservations at what is now regarded as one of Perth’s greatest restaurants. This much-talked about and reviewed venue has every bragging right. From the sophisticated interior decorated with dark wood, framed European prints and crisp white table linen to the impeccable standard of service, Bistro Felix is in a league of its own. But it doesn’t stop there. Dishes that focus on fresh seasonal produce ensure regular menu changes and the introduction of innovative new creations featuring local and rare ingredients.

With an extensive knowledge in French haute cuisine, Chef Neil Herbert has created a wondrous array of Gallic gastronomy that will leave you swooning at the knees. Starting with an Italian twist for starters, Stuzzichini(meaning "to pick at") is designed for grazing as you enjoy a pre-dinner drink or peruse the rest of the menu. The stuzzichini selection offers something for everyone, from marinated olives to grilled Rottnest Island scallops. Once you’ve whet your appetite and settled into the ambience of Bistro Felix, it’s time to prepare yourself for the main event. Corn fed Chicken Leg, slow braised in red wine with bacon and mushrooms, may sound relatively simple but the flavours of this dish are amazing. You can almost taste the passion that has gone into it. Similarly, the Pont l'eveque and sweet potato pie is a complete taste revelation. It doesn’t matter what you dine on at Bistro Felix as every dish delivers just as much joy as the next. Complete your meal with a French cheese platter and some dessert wine and you’ll have a dining experience you won’t ever forget.

For those of you who haven’t been to Bistro Felix, make a booking now! For those that have been there previously, go back again! Dined here on Friday evening, and it was superb. The chef and her assistants really know what they are doing, and it shows in the food. Started with the daily tasting plate: cured duck, jamon Serrano, some sort of terrine and olive bread; great value and very tasty. Mains were barramundi pan fried to perfection with gnocchi and my dining companion had steak that was beautifully cooked. Looked around the restaurant and experience food envy when I saw the caramelised pork belly that others had ordered, it looked soooo good, I think I will have to return to sample that dish. Dessert was a very very very rich chocolate tart, small but more than enough given how rich it was, once again it was gorgeous! Entrée, main and dessert trifecta! Large and varied wine list, but to be honest, I prefer to spend my calories on food, and I left the restaurant a very happy little piggy. The service was excellent, they had many wait staff and you never had to work hard to get someone’s attention. They were attentive, polite, friendly and never intrusive which I find very important; I hate it when people hover. Definitely a very professionally run restaurant with food that is cooked with skill and love. Well worth the Saturday morning jog to burn off the calories!review 06/09/2010
