PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAMost capital cities have their fair share of Italian restaurants, but when you hear of one that’s been in operation for longer than you’ve been alive, a visit is a must. Sorrento Restaurant is not your average, run of the mill Italian eatery. It does have a distinctly Tuscan feel with big arches, yellow sponged walls and Ole Blue Eyes crooning in the background, but this venue also offers something extra. The welcoming smile you receive from owner Alfonso Di Lanzo instantly makes you feel like you’re part of a big Italian family. In bona fide European style, Alfonso and his wife Tina, along with their long-running team of staff, do everything they can to ensure your Sorrento experience is top-notch.
With an emphasis on traditional Italian cooking methods, the food here is incredible. The customary Italian dishes such as parmigiana, scaloppine, risotto and pasta are present, but this is one place you’ll want to try something different. The garetto di agnello (lamb shanks braised with grappa and Italian herbs) is a sensational choice, as is the saltimbocca alla roma. You’ll be hard pressed to find a better example of this dish. Dessert lovers will melt with one bite of the tiramisu - a perfect way to end a delightful meal.
