PROFILED BY DE GROOTS MEDIAPosed with the choice of buffet or a la carte, which method of dining do you prefer? The downside of buffets is they are all too often stocked with less-than-fresh food, leaving the diner with a bad taste in their mouth - literally. On the other hand, a la carte menus sometimes fail to deliver what they promise leaving diners disappointed, hungry and broke. With these negative aspects in mind, I was chuffed to discover one restaurant that offers buffet and a la carte dining without a hint of laziness or disregard for their patrons. Montereys, located in the CBD, boasts a range of cuisine on their buffet including local prawns, mussels, Tasmanian smoked salmon, garden fresh salads, antipasto, traditional roast carvery, freshly prepared pasta, fragrant curries, puddings, tortes, ice-cream and a regional cheese selection.
Offering even more wonderful choices, the seafood buffet includes local crab, oysters, sushi, a variety of daily seafood creations and is available for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays. If a la carte is more your style, you will be impressed with the range of light meals such as the downtown burger or beautifully topped pizzas. The mains menu is a meat and seafood lovers delight with char-grilled Tender Hill pork cutlets, aged Butterfield ribeye, barramundi and my favourite is the grilled chefs selected sausages with Paris mash and all the trimmings. There is also a fun childrens menu with each dish named after a cartoon which should bring a smile to the face of your young ones.
